There have been big changes taking place in the ThedaCare systems, and one personal touch you may have noticed is the message boards at each campus. The boards each share a patient story and have been a hit among the staff and public alike. The board below can be found in the OB section of the ThedaCare Regional Medical Center – Appleton, formerly known as Appleton Medical Center. Mindy’s Story shares the following:
“Each of my three children came into the world under interesting circumstances. My first arrived at 32 weeks, after I had spent two weeks on bed rest. My second was more serious – he immediately needed neo-natal resuscitation. And Dr. Honkamp and I agreed that a scheduled c-section was the right decision for my third.
Before staying at home with my kids, I was a labor and delivery nurse here at ThedaCare. I could have picked different hospitals or doctors if I wanted to, but this is where I wanted to be. I love the physicians here. Knowing a lot as a labor and delivery nurse helped me, but the doctors took the extra step to explain everything to my husband, which was nice. We are really lucky to have what we have here. The doctors remember you. You’re not just a patient on an assembly line.
You form a relationship, you feel comfortable. I think my own experience helped me be a better nurse.”
