With each new year brings another opportunity to truly make it a year of loving yourself, taking care of yourself, and focusing on YOU as a person. It might seem contradictory, but the more you do for yourself, the more you can do for other people – children, spouse, partner, aging parents…
In looking at general health, I tell all my patients to do a few things to stay healthy. Get a mammogram yearly after 40. If you’re over the age of 50, a colonoscopy is recommended. There is so much confusing information about how often a woman should get a pap. The bottom line is this: Even though you don’t need a pap done every year, you DO need a routine gynecological exam, including a breast exam. Talk to your provider for more information.
Personally, every woman can do things for herself to be healthy. Exercise, rest, watch your fat and sugar intake, and take a daily multivitamin and calcium supplement. As women, we tend not to take time for ourselves. It’s important to do it. Even five minutes of quiet reflection every day can change your mood and help you deal with the stresses of life.
Love and respect yourself and the choices you make this year.
If you have questions and concerns, we always have the time to answer questions. That’s what we are here for – just give us a call.
As a nurse practitioner, I have the time to spend with you one-on-one. I can take consultations if you are not ready for a physical exam. Or I can spend time with you during an exam helping you feel comfortable with your concerns. Ask me whatever you want.
