thedacare obgyn neenah wiWe are thrilled to introduce our newest physician to our growing OB/GYN practice, Dr. Kelly Adams, soon to be Dr. Kelly Kennedy after her upcoming September wedding.  To help everyone get to know her better, I thought a Q & A session with her would be useful, and here’s what she had to share:

WHS:  You graduated from the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, what made you choose that medical school?

Dr. A:  I chose to attend that medical school because of its world renowned OB/GYN program.  The obstetrics training program is longer than the average training program and very rigorous.  The medical school also created the foundation from which the Management of Labor Practices the U.S. utilizes was derived from.

Obstetrics is my passion and I wanted to be as knowledgeable and prepared as possible for my patients.  The entire realm of women’s health care is fascinating to me because it’s an opportunity to build a relationship with a patient from adolescence to pregnancy to menopause and everything in between.  Not many professions offer that chance to be a part of so many milestones in someone’s life.

WHS:  After medical school, where did you complete your four year residency?

Dr. A:  I completed my residency program at Stony Brook University Hospital in New York.  It gave me a chance to work with a very diverse patient base and wide variety of cases, because it’s the primary hospital for almost one million people in the region.

WHS:  Why the move to the Midwest after your residence program?

Dr. A:  I was really drawn to the Midwest because it was such an appealing place to settle down and raise a family.  Right away I felt like I fit in, and there are so many welcoming, friendly people everywhere we go.  My fiancé and I really love it here.

WHS:  What drew you to Women’s Health Specialists?

Dr. A:  In meeting with the other physicians, my first impression was that they are a fantastic group that really respect each other and go above and beyond not only for their patients, but for each other as well.  Then I learned how long the physicians in this practice have been here; the vast majority of the doctors at Women’s Health Specialists have been here for 10 – 34 years.  It’s so uncommon these days to find that type of loyalty and consistency at a practice, and it really showed me how much they care about their patients.

WHS:  What’s something that people might not know about you?

Dr. A:  I was a competitive diver and enjoy staying active today.  I think that athletic part of me makes a better advocate for my patients, sometimes I feel like their coach that’s going to help them get through whatever stage or issues they’re going through.
